Setting up a new PS3 with Rocksmith

One thing I forgot was how annoying the original Rocksmith is to set up. You have to go through the full "this is a note" "this is a fret" "attach your strap" introduction videos before you can start playing.

I got to go through this three times. The first because the PS hadn't switched accounts to my new one. Then once each for Bass and Guitar.

The Rocksmith game gives you a list of songs to practice, and when you reach a qualifying score you get to play the set in front of a virtual audience.

Thankfully the Rocksmith 2014 asks if you are familiar with the game and allows you to skip the setup. A vast improvement.

I completed the first gig for both Bass and Guitar on the Rocksmith game, earning a double encore for both. On Bass I played Where Is My Mind? and (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction in the set with Chimney and Islands as encores. On guitar I played (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction and Next Girl in the set with Angela and California Brain as the encores.

The Rocksmith 2014 doesn't have the practice for a gig idea. but it does have a score attack game where you play one of three levels (easy, medium, and hard) and you get assessed how well you play at that level. I played R U Mine at easy mode on the guitar, and had perfect for all but one of the phrases in the song.

Rocksmith 2014

Everlong by Foo Fighters. I beat my previous overall score with 31.6%.

Every Breath You Take by The Police. I improved on my overall playing and gained 93% right.

Knockin' On Heavens Door by Bob Dylan.

Pour Some Sugar on Me by Def Leppard. I beat my previous overall score with 36.8%.

R U Mine by Arctic Monkeys. I improved on my overall playing and gained 97% right. Since my last blog I've played this song twice. Once in normal mode and the second in the Score Attack mode.

The two versions of the game have different methods of calculating the scores. The original version just had the score, streak and percentage. In Rocksmith 2014 the score was dropped from the main results, and a mastery and an overall result was added.

The overall result can be over 100%, this occurs when a song is played in master mode. In Master mode, the game hides the notes you are expected to play. When you manage to successfully play the song in master mode, you have learned the song and should be able to play the song alongside a band or backing track.
