578:14 Second Session Monday

My second session of the day, this time I played for 57 minutes, taking my total time to 578:14 hours.

Today's effort involved 33 minutes of playing, taking my total time played to 577:17 hours logged.

This is mostly on the Rocksmith and Rocksmith 2014 games, but a smattering from YouTube and tabs. Occasionally I get a session with a band and we have been working on Blitzkrieg Bop by the Ramones.

576.7 Sunday evening session

A slight change in format now, as I have moved my spreadsheet into Google sheets in the hope of making it a little more flexible for accessing the data.

With my other half, we've picked out a number of songs that we have in mind for performing at buskers nights. These songs have been added to my 'to learn' list.

I was also surprised to find that I am learning 135 different songs via the Rocksmith, and also from a combination sitting in with band rehearsals and from YouTube videos and tabs.

In this session I played for 37 minutes, and I am now up to 576 hours and 44 minutes total logged practice time.

575 An extra hour sneaked in

As the Beaver Scout meetings have shut down for the summer holidays, I decided to abuse the laptop's battery and play a few songs before going to buskers. This update is actually from last night, but I had laptop issues :-S.

I found it interesting that Alan and Dave that run the night (Bluebell Pub in Washington Tuesday evenings 1930 to 2130 approx) understand that I don't want to get up and play until I am confident that I can manage to play songs from start to finish.

So why don't other people that count themselves as friends understand and accept my viewpoint?

One said something along the lines of "you will get up and play Snowflake", which is why I stopped going to that particular buskers.

As well was playing the songs, I also looked at some of the other facilities the Rocksmith 2014 game has.

There are a variety of lessons, today I sampled the Chords 101, where the game shows you how to play Em7, Em, and Emajor chords. After showing you the fingering, it gets you to play the chords in a short song. I managed 100% accuracy, although this was only 23 notes long! I got a "flawless" performance.

I had a go at the Score Attack game for California Dreaming, earning 22901 ponts which put me at #67 in my "local" area. I have no idea how large that area is, but I suspect it reflects the lack of popularity of the song why I was so highly ranked.

There is also a play for x minutes option, I tried this out for 15 minutes and got London's Calling, Stuck On A Wire, Peace of Mind, and Thunderkiss '65 to play. the game then tempted me to play X-Kid again, but I was needing to be away by then.

Song 2 Unlocked Master Mode

We Share the Same Skies and the second Islands were played on guitar, the other songs on bass.

I managed to play well enough to unlock Master mode on Song 2. The downside of that is I should now start playing in master mode: that is where you don't get shown the notes but still get scored on accuracy. I'm not quite ready for that yet though.

568.4 A Steamy Monday Evening Session

Today's session was a mix between the original Rocksmith and Rocksmith 2014 games. What I like best about the Steam version is that it synchronises across the various platforms the game is running on. It's a shame that the Playstation 3 was unable to manage this feat.

I'm playing the various training sessions on the original version and am keeping track of what I unlock. At least until I get fed up with the effort of writing them down! I only managed a single encore today.

On Technique I unlocked Double Stop and Palm Mutes. I can now access The Mouse Hole venue. I unlocked an Epiphone 1958 Kerina Flying-V guitar. If only I had an original one for real!

The Cro-Magnon Drive tone was another unlock today. This effect has a Distortion pedal on the distort path, an EQ6 in the filter chain driving a DC58 amp feeding a DC58 2x12 cabinet. That combination is probably a little too much for practicing in the bedroom late at night.

edit: I have also discovered that under steam, the games are all synched up (or at least for Rocksmith 2014).

I have restarted the original Rocksmith game on a separate login, and managed to qualify and complete the first gig with a double encore.
