Nothing like a good play on the guitar. And tonight was nothing like it

Today I played 10 songs for around 39 minutes on the original Rocksmith, and about an hour on Rocksmith 2014.

Rocksmith notes

With an improvement in half the songs I played, I'm fairly pleased. I was even more happy to get 97% of Next Girl right. I can almost see that at some time next year I will be able to play all of the notes. I'm still not sure what I'll be able to do without the notes on screen.

I'm still trying to get Burnished, Gobbledigook and Islands all above the qualifier enough to risk going for the performance and the next set of songs to torture myself with. It's not going to happen this year though!

Rocksmith 2014

I thought I'd work through some of the recommendations. The Riff Repeater, although likely to make a significant improvement in scores, doesn't half get me frustrated.

I started by playing String Skip Saloon getting 119,070 points, then had a run at Ducks Redux with 78,500 points.

I decided to focus on Losing My Religion, not one of the easiest songs to play in the selection I suspect. This version of Rocksmith gives you some suggestions on what to try. These are a combinations of lessons, guitarcade games and the cursed riff repeater.

I had two attempts at the song, and improved on the second attempt.

Working out how to measure the stats for this version of the game is going to be interesting I think. One thing I need to see about is getting the PS linked through the wifi and putting the scores on the main Rocksmith site.

A Rocksmith National Headliner

Today I played 10 songs for around 37 minutes on the original Rocksmith, and played on Rocksmith 2014 for about half an hour.

Orginal Rocksmith

I have achieved National Headliner with 3,501,448 Rocksmith Points. I still can't see anybody actually wanting to hear me play, although I am getting to the point where I might be able to play a song through without needing the notes on screen.

The three songs that are on the active set list are slowly improving, although I still haven't achieved the qualifier for two of them.

I really need to organise my spreadsheets to make this much easier for me to update and capture, and I am edging towards a database solution (which means learning to use LibreOffice Base) although some time thinking about how to complete the web site would be better.

Rocksmith 2014

Lessons

Shifting 101 shows you how to move around the fretboard, and I achieved 95.2%.

Sustains 101 is about playing a note and letting it ring out, I got full marks for this one. Well chuffed with that.

Songs

I played four songs on this version of the game.

Now by Paramore I got 9.9% of the song right

R U Mine by the Arctic Monkeys got 20.2%.

The Spirit of Radio by Rush I earned 17.5%, and made an attempt at the riff repeater but got frustrated as it kept adding more and more notes into what I was supposed to be playing.

You Really Got Me by The Kinks I scored 11.5%.

I need to work out an easy way of tracking progress with this version of the game, the scoring is substantially different to the original version of the game.

A quick look at Rocksmith 2014 before getting on with the playing

Today I played 9 songs for around half an hour on the original Rocksmith, and spent an hour or so on Rocksmith 2014.

Rocksmith 2014

I spent an hour trying a couple of different parts of the game out.

Games

Gone Wailing is a platform game collecting bananas and moving the position of your character by the volume that you are playing. 

Lessons

The lessons on Rocksmith 2014 start with basics: attaching the strap, holding the guitar and picking techniques.

Losing My Religion

I spent some time on this today, starting with the Chords 101 that takes you through the Em7, Em and E chords.

I unlocked a skin BTQ-30. I've not really used anything I unlocked on the original game, and don't see me changing on this game: it's all about the playing for me, not the flashy stuff.

Boxing day

Today I played 4 songs for around 12 minutes, then spend some time on Dual player mode on Rocksmith2014 with James. We only played for about 4 hours, but didn't keep track of songs played or the scores.

Nothing spectacular today, but glad I managed to keep close to the previous score for Next Girl. We had to pop out to get some luxuries like food.

I have a few urgent items on my todo list, currently it includes:

• A four hour coding exercise for a potential job
• Making guitar tabs for Next Girl and Go With The Flow.
• Redesigning the screens and data storage for the Rocktrack application I am working on

Merry Christmas

Today I played 7 songs for around 26 minutes all before I went to the in-laws for the first of my two Christmas dinners.

I'm very pleased with my attempt at Next Girl as I beat my previous best by almost 5%. I still need to work out the tabs for this.

It might be a good time for me to hook up my hard disk recorder so I can record what I've played. Although this would mean I'd be able to post it on YouTube too, at least once I get the audio of what I've been playing recorded too.

Achieved Master level on Next Girl!

Today I played 17 songs for around 1 hours 02 minutes.

The main highlight is getting master level with Next Girl by getting over 100,000 points and also maxing out each of the phrases in the song. I have a sneaky feeling that the next encore I get, this will be one of the songs. Of course, that's how I would have programmed the game!

We're watching Into Darkness at the moment, then going to call past my parents for a couple of hours.

Progress with my app for tracking progress in the game is zero.  I need to have a think about how the data needs to be structured since discovering that Rocksmith2014 uses a different scoring system to the original Rocksmith.

Next Girl is the second song I've managed to beat the 100,000 point target. This means the next time I get this (or Go With The Flow) in a performance, I do so without help of the notes coming up on screen.

I'm at 3,476,756 Rocksmith Points now, not long before I get the next category. I still find it amusing the titles it gives. I can't see anybody coming to see me play for free, let alone having me be a support act with anybody else!

I have had a compliment, that what I'm playing is starting to sound like the song, so I think I'm pleased with that <looks suspiciously at Lynn>.
